Introduction
As a major European capital city, Lisbon and the surrounding
area is as interesting golf holiday destination as you are likely
to find the world over. This vibrant and historic region will appeal
to all ages and tastes; Lisbon itself is a cultural and gastronomic
delight with a pulsating nightlife and an abundance of great shopping
and fine restaurants. From the picturesque seaside village of Sesimbra
in the south to the ancient walled city of Sintra and quaint old
holiday towns of Cascais and Estoril to the west we promise you
will not be disappointed with a visit to this as yet unspoilt corner
of Portugal.
With a climate similar to the Algarve and temperatures
regularly above 60F even in winter, the months of February, March
and November are great value and the ideal time to escape our chilly
autumn and spring climate. With low rainfall and a Mediterranean
climate from March through November you are virtually guaranteed
great golfing weather almost year round.
There are up to 9 direct flights daily from Heathrow
and Gatwick with either AIR PORTUGAL or BA with regional connections
available from most local airports if required. An early morning
departure from either Heathrow or Gatwick and early evening departures
from Lisbon means that you can enjoy a round on both the day you
arrive and depart. With direct flights from London taking 2 hours
the Lisbon area is a great destination for both the serious golfer
looking for an intensive short or long weekend break to the casual
golfer searching for that elusive quality destination that offers
something more than just good golf.

| Just a 30 minute drive north
of Lisbon the picturesque hills surrounding Campo Real provide a stunning
backdrop to the course. In addition there are some substantial elevation
changes and many an exciting shot to be played. Several sets of tees
mean that this is a manageable course for golfers of all standards
and whilst the course is walkable we recommend you consider taking
a buggy for your overall enjoyment. The new on-site five star Westin
Hotel offers superb accommodation for those wishing to stay on and
enjoy this delightful new addition to the Lisbon golf scene. |
| Estoril (££) |
6120 yds

| Situated in an ancient pine
forest Estoril Golf Club is one of Portugal's oldest and renowned
clubs. Recent improvements to this typical parkland layout have improved
the course considerably and whilst on the short side by modern standards
it remains an interesting test of golf without being too difficult.
Conveniently located close to the Hotel Palacio the course is only
available to non-residents of the hotel Monday to Thursday. |
| Montado (££) |
6360 yds
par 72 |
| Located on the southern side
of the river Tagus, Montado has been built on unused farmland. With
quite an open layout the man-made lakes and rolling fairways give
a fair test of resort golf and with recent improvements should prove
to be enjoyable for all. |

in and around Lisbon is varied and generally of a high standard. The
best courses are certainly equal to their counterparts further south
and are currently less expensive and much less crowded. Whatever your
standard, you will definitely not be disappointed with the quality
and variety of golf the Lisbon area has to offer. |
Situated within the Quinta
da Marinha estate on the outskirts of Cascais, the superb Oitavos
golf course is a part tree-lined and part links of the highest quality. With
numerous holes having spectacular views over the nearby Atlantic Ocean
the combination of parkland and links style holes makes this course
a must play for the avid golfer. Although slightly more expensive
than other Lisbon area layouts, the Oitavos experience is worth every
penny and with the putter hot could be one of your most memorable
golfing experiences yet. |

| Adjacent
to the 5* Penha Longa Hotel, the Atlantic course is another Robert
Trent Jones Jnr design and former host to the Portuguese Open that
is a must play. Set over rolling terrain with the Atlantic Ocean in
the distance Penha Longa Atlantic features a mixture of tree-lined
doglegs, wide-open fairways, large water hazards and fast, undulating
greens. Some spectacular driving holes from elevated tees make this
as an enjoyable test of golf as you are likely to come across. To
enhance the enjoyment of your round on the Atlantic course we recommend
you take a buggy. |
| Both
courses at Aroeira are fairly tight with tree-lined fairways, hitting
solid shots from the tees is the order of the day. Aroeira I has hosted
The Portuguese Open three times, whilst the newer Aroeira II has a
combination of well placed bunkers and numerous water hazards. Both
courses offer great value for money with some of the lowest green
fees in the area. |

| Winding
its way over rolling parkland within view of the Sintra Mountains,
Belas is another popular Lisbon course that demands accurate shot
making and a sharp, confident short game. As with most of the Lisbon
area courses Belas is renowned for its great greens, which can be
lightning fast and therefore a challenge to every standard of golfer.
Due to the undulating terrain and area the course covers we recommend
you consider a buggy for your round at Belas. |
