Golf Holidays in Virginia
Whilst Virginia might not be the first State that comes to mind for your golf holiday in the USA, there are a number of very good reasons why you should perhaps think again. With direct flights from London to Washington (another Virgin Atlantic destination where golf clubs go FREE) a few days spent exploring the Capital region before heading off to the historic Williamsburg area might appeal.
As well as being home to many of the USA's significant historic sites, golf features frequently in Virginia's sporting history. The state has an abundant supply of quality golf courses with reasonable green fees to choose from, many of them in the Williamsburg area.
If you are feeling more adventurous then head out to the west of the State where perched on the slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains is one of gods gifts to golfers - The Wintergreen Resort. Doubling as a ski centre in the winter months, Wintergreen has two of the most enjoyable and contrasting golf courses you are ever likely to play - Stoney Creek in the Valley and Devils Knob high in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Wintergreen is the ideal destination for a multi centre holiday and combined with either North and South Carolina (or both) in the south or Williamsburg/Washington to the north, is bound to provide a memorable golf holiday.
Being that bit further north than the Carolinas the golf season is somewhat shorter than destinations further south, to enjoy the best golfing conditions we would recommend visiting Virginia between May when courses have enjoyed several weeks of spring growth and late October when the spectacular fall colours provide a picturesque setting, second to none.
