Eagles favourite ten Hilton Head golf courses

Harbour Town Golf Links (££££):
Home of the prestigious Worldcom Classic each April, the Pete Dye designed Harbour Town is frequently ranked amongst the top 100 golf courses in the world. Good scoring depends on finesse and shotmaking, rather than strength. The par 4 18th hole is one of golf's most photographed holes and will be the finale to one of the most memorable golfing experiences anywhere.

The Ocean Course (££):
No matter how many times you've played the Ocean Course, your next round will be a completely new experience. Mark McCumber has built interest, challenge and strategy into the course, while preserving the natural beauty of the Sea Pines area. This fine course is playable for golfers of every skill level.

Sea Marsh (££):
The Sea Marsh course offers a variety of golf holes and beautiful scenery, that make it both challenging and enjoyable. Many of the 18-holes cross picturesque lagoons and marshes, while the fairways are lined with many varieties of trees. Although not a long course, this is a very interesting test of golf.

Indigo Run - Golden Bear (££):
This Jack Nicklaus layout winds through lush forests and scenic landscape. The greens here are on the smallish side, placing a premium on accuracy with approach shots. The most appealing aspect of the courses however, is the variety of holes - from open, park-like settings, to tranquil tree lined fairways, to winding lagoons and oaks.

Oyster Reef (££):
Featuring elevated tees and fairways, lined by thick stands of live oaks and pines, Oyster Reef offers a test worthy of the most skilled golfer. Numerous doglegs call for well-planned tee shots and large greens with undulations and tiers place a premium on precise approach shots. The par 3 sixth is one of the most visually spectacular holes on the island.

Palmetto Dunes - Robert Trent Jones Course (££):
An oceanfront classic, this picturesque course was the first in Palmetto Dunes and it remains the most popular amongst visitors and residents alike. The open fairways and large greens make this course a pleasure to play, although keeping the ball out of water on the shorter back nine can be a challenge.

George Fazio at Palmetto Dunes (££):
The Fazio course still ranks as one of the Southeast's most demanding layouts. Dramatic bunkering coupled with the course's rolling fairways and greens make for an exhilarating experience that challenges the golfer at every turn.

Arthur Hills at Palmetto Dunes (££):
The Hills course at Palmetto Dunes offers one of the most distinctive layouts in the Lowcountry and challenges even the most skilled golfer. Built on a series of sand dunes, the course offers dramatic elevation changes and Scottish style character. The Hills course redefines Lowcountry golf and is a "must play" for both new and returning guests.

Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall (££):
Refreshingly original in its unique character, the Robert Cupp course is a favourite among residents and visitors. With lakes, lagoon and marsh in view on 16 of the 18 holes, the course represents a striking balance between beauty and challenge. From a player's standpoint, Cupp is great fun to play for all skill levels.

Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall (££):
Distinctively different and lauded for its outstanding year-round conditioning, Arthur Hills at Palmetto Hall is heavily wooded with towering pines and moss-draped oaks, the course features undulating fairways and greens flanked by strategically placed water hazards, as well as sand and grass bunkers
