Dubai
Introduction
With seven championship courses now in play and several more in
the development stages Dubai can be seriously considered one of
the Worlds great golf holiday destinations. Located at the southern
end of the Arabian Gulf, Dubai City is a bustling metropolis, while
outside the city itself this second largest of the seven trucial
states is sparsely inhabited and surrounded by vast sandy deserts
and the pure blue waters of the Arabian sea.
Dubai has an ever expanding selection of luxury beach and city hotels
and whilst the beachfront hotels offer uninterrupted views of the
clear blue sea of the Arabian Gulf many of our clients prefer the
less expensive but equally opulent city hotels. An enormous choice
of excellent restaurants featuring cuisine from around the world
and a varied nightlife of bars, cafes and nightclubs make Dubai
a must visit holiday destination.
When not playing golf you
can either relax on the miles of sandy beach, shop till you drop
in one of the numerous shopping malls or take in a desert tour.
Opened in December 2005 Dubais newest attraction is the worlds
largest indoor Ski (yes Ski) centre. Dubai enjoys a very dry and
sunny climate with the best time for golf being between October
and May, outside of these months the high temperatures and humidity
do not make (despite the reduced green fees) for enjoyable golf.
Rainfall is infrequent and irregular, falling mainly in January
it rarely rains on more than five days in a year.

8 : Arabian Ranches
Golf Club (££) |
7691 yds Par 72
|
| Opened in 2004 and designed by Ian
Baker-Finch and the Nicklaus design company, Arabian
Ranches measures a monster 7,691-yards from the
championship tees. With no water hazards to face,
players tackle the elements and one enormous twisting
bunker - the desert itself - on a sprawling course
cultivated from the desert landscape. All golf carts
feature the GPS (Global Positioning System) yardage
service, so there can be no excuse for selecting
the wrong club. Five sets of tees allow golfers
of most standards to enjoy this unforgettable golfing
experience. The superb clubhouse now has luxury
accommodation available, if this of interest please
call for details. |

| 2 : Al Badia (£££)
|
7250 yds Par 72
|
| Designed by the internationally renowned
Robert Trent Jones II, the Al Badia Championship
Golf Course is rich in water features, incorporating
11 lakes and several smaller ponds lush with plants
indigenous to the Arabian Gulf. |

| 4 : Dubai Creek (£££) |
6857 yds Par 71
|
| Reopened in 2004 the Dubai Creek course
has undergone a comprehensive overhaul under the
watchful eye of tournament professional Thomas Bjorn.
Host to several Dubai Desert Classic PGA tour events
this spectacular course runs alongside Dubai Creek,
the salt water inlet that gives Dubai much of its
character. In addition to the well-groomed fairways
lined with date and coconut palms the attractive
lakes and tropical plants gives the course a secluded
feel despite its close proximity to the centre of
Dubai. There is a new 9-hole par 3 course and extensive
practise facilities along with a recently opened
225 room five star Park Hyatt Hotel. |

| 5 : Majlis (£££) |

|
| 6 : Wadi by Faldo (£££) |
7328 yds Par 72
|
One of Eagle Golf Tours favourite
golf experiences the Majlis courses is host
to the Dubai Desert Classic Tour event and is probably
the most well known of Dubais ever growing
number of Championship courses. The signature clubhouse
at the Emirates Golf Club - modelled in the style
of Bedouin tents - remains the most eye-catching
in the region. By combining the natural rolling
desert terrain with lush fairways, several lakes
and huge greens the Majlis provides you with an
immensely enjoyable yet challenging round of golf.
Because of the Desert Classic being held in early
February the Majlis will be closed from around mid
January until after the tournament.
"Recently remodelled by Nick Faldo the "Wadi
by Faldo" course is now worthy of comparison
with its more illustrious big brother, the Majlis." |
|
| 9 : Jebel Ali (£) |
6375 yds Par 72
|
| The Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa
course is a 9-hole par 36 quality layout played
out alongside the adjacent desert, Jebel Ali marina
and a saltwater lake. The course has 4 sets of tees
for each hole and by playing from a different set
of tees for your second nine holes the course becomes
a terrific 18 holes. Each hole is uniquely landscaped
with exotic trees and shrubs, with the additional
unusual feature of Peacock, guinea fowl, and partridges
roaming free on the perfectly manicured Bermuda
grass greens and fairways. |
|
| 7 : The Montgomerie (£££)
|
7266 yds Par72
|
| Designed by Desmond Muirhead and Colin
Montgomerie, The Montgomerie is another gem of a
course enjoying growing popularity with overseas
visitors. It embraces the traditions of a Scottish
links course making it a unique golfing experience
in this part of the world. With numerous water hazards
and seventy-two bunkers, The Montgomerie adds a
distinctive variety to the golfing landscape of
Dubai and should not be missed. |
|
|
| 3 : Nad Al Sheba (££) |
6630 yds Par 71
|
| Close to the heart of Dubai and sharing
the site with the world famous Nad Al Sheba racecourse,
home to The Dubai World Cup (the worlds richest
horse race), the front nine of the golf course meanders
around the outside of the racecourse and the challenging
back nine is laid out inside the racecourse perimeter.
Moreover, the course presents an additional experience
for golfers under floodlights and the cool, Arabian
night sky. Nad Al Sheba Club was the first fully
floodlit 18-hole course in the Middle East region
and gnlf can be enjoyed until midnight most nights
of the year. |
