Renowned for its fabulous backdrop of Table Mountain the Milnerton course is a challenge to even the most experienced golfer, and none more so than when the prevailing south-easterly blows in the summer months. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the RietVlei River, this lush links-type layout is relatively flat with few trees, and with the sea and a lagoon bordering most holes and ever-present views of Table Mountain offers a truly unique golfing experience. Stellenbosch Golf Club is situated in the historic, bustling student capital of the winelands. Surrounded by vineyards and the Simonsberg and Helderberg Mountains this pretty parkland course is a delight to play. Well protected from the prevailing south-easterly winds by the huge trees lining the fairways, Stellenbosch is an enjoyable and not to testing a layout usually found in excellent condition.
7 : Pearl Valley (£££) 7161 yds Par 72 2 : Westlake Golf Club (££) 6270 yds Par 72
Surrounded by the picturesque Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountains approximately an hour’s drive from Cape Town is another Jack Nicklaus designed gem, Pearl Valley. Bordered by vineyards the flat and largely uninterrupted terrain enabled Nicklaus the freedom to develop a championship layout where strategy is more important than length off the tee. With water hazards coming into play on just about every hole and 76 well placed bunkers to contend with Pearl Valley will provide an exciting challenge to golfers of all ability’s. Close to False Bay and one of the oldest courses in the Cape region Westlake enjoys stunning mountain and forest views from almost every hole. The fairways are wide and provided you stay out of trouble off the tee Westlake should be a low scoring round! This user-friendly design is a course that everyone can enjoy whatever your playing ability.
5 : Royal Cape (£££) 6733 yds Par 72 10 : Arabella (££) 7023 yds Par 72
Formed in 1885, the Royal Cape Golf Course is the oldest club in the whole of Africa. It is a championship course of some repute and has hosted the prestigious South Africa Open numerous times. This flat parkland course has narrow tree-lined fairways, six water hazards and fifty eight well placed bunkers to contend with, always well groomed Royal Cape has terrific views of the Table Mountain range from just about every hole. Only an hours drive from Cape Town in the grounds of the 5* Western Cape Hotel & Spa and over looking one of South Africa’s most natural and beautiful lagoons is the spectacular Arabella course. A combination of parkland, downland and links style holes all enjoying terrific views of the wonderful scenery make this a course to treasure, with the last few holes running down to and along the picturesque Bot River Lagoon being amongst the best in South Africa.
4 : Steenberg (£££) 6726 yds Par 72  

Located on the fabulous Steenberg Hotel and Vineyard Estate approximately 15 minutes from Cape Town the Steenberg course is an absolute joy to play. The fairways are divided into four distinctive regions, namely Wetlands, Parklands, Cape Flats and Fynbos offering a great variety of challenges including large waste bunkers, running creeks, numerous ponds and large undulating greens. After enjoying a round here make sure you stay on and enjoy a meal in the outstanding hotel restaurant. Whilst we have not included The 5* Steenberg Hotel in our brochure we have no hesitation in recommending the superb accommodation here as a base for a stay in the Cape Town area, please call for details.
