INTRODUCTION to SOUTH AFRICA
EAGLE GOLF TOURS
have been sending clients to wonderful South Africa for over 5 years and what an outstanding golf holiday destination it has proved to be, with 100% of our clients having a great holiday!

For the first time visitor (or repeat) to South Africa your precious holiday time needs to be planned carefully. This is a huge country and to try and cram in the incredible variation of things to do and places to visit in 10 to 14 days is just not possible.

Over the next few pages we have tried to cover the popular areas close to South Africa’s main tourist centre’s which also offer a choice of superb golf courses. The regions we will cover are Cape Town, the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route in the south.

From Durban and Umhlanga Rocks down to Port Edward and the Wild Coast Resort on the Indian Ocean coast and Sun City and the Pillansberg Game Reserve in the central highlands. Whilst these are the areas covered in this brochure we cannot possibly include all the hotels, resorts and game reserves (Kruger etc) available.

Therefore if you have any specific requirements regarding hotels, bed & breakfast style guest houses, resorts and game reserves not included in this brochure please let us know and we will almost certainly be able to provide a competitive quotation. We would also like to remind you that your holiday does not necessarily have to include golf as we can provide competitive quotes for family and non-related golf holidays.

THE GOLF COURSES
Cape Town and the Winelands.
3 : Clovelly (££) 6458 yds Par 72
Tucked away in the picturesque Clovelly valley surrounded by mountains and overlooking False Bay, the Clovelly course compliments the coastal environment perfectly with its natural sand dunes and water features. The course has a variety of trees scattered along the fairways from which there are great views of the surrounding mountains, dunes and ocean. The 4* Clovelly Fairways Lodge overlooks the course and is an ideal location for a holiday base. Please call for more details.
9 : De Zalze Golf Club
(Formerly Spier) (£)
6930 yds Par 72
Overlooked by the towering Helderburg mountain’s and surrounded by rolling vineyards and orange groves the picturesque De Zalze course is set in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands. The cool blue waters of the Blaauwklippen river meanders through the course and each of the splendid 18 holes offers its own unique challenge. One thing you’ll notice about De Zalze is that the clubhouse is situated in the wine-producing cellar of the Kleine Zalza wine farm. Golfers playing here usually take advantage of this by enjoying some of South Africa’s finest wines at the superb19th hole.
CAPE TOWN & THE WINELANDS 6 : Erinvale (££) 7156 yds Par 72
Introduction & Golf Courses Host to major golf championships including several South African Opens the Erinvale course is one of the finest on the whole continent of Africa. Situated in Somerset West about a 45-minute drive from Cape Town, this Gary Player design is a course of two separate and contrasting nine holes. The front nine meanders through fairly flat parkland whilst the back nine climbs steadily up the mountain terrain, with spectacular views of the wild Cape coastline increasing as one reaches the highest point on the course.
Situated on the southern most tip of southwest Africa in the shadow of Table Mountain is the exciting city of Cape Town. Surrounded by wonderful beaches and mountains Cape Town and its sprawling suburbs is truly one of the world’s great holiday destinations. Whilst the historic city centre and picturesque seaside suburbs offer an amazing variety of scenery and things to do the most visited attraction in Cape Town is the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront which has a huge assortment of hotels, shopping, restaurants and entertainment all set within a picturesque working harbour.

Just a 45-minute drive from Cape Town and you’re in the mountains and valleys of the Winelands where you will find gracious gabled Cape Dutch homesteads, wineries and picturesque towns lined with ancient oaks and exquisite restaurants. Stellenbosch, Franschoek and Paarl are delightful and beg to be explored and savoured slowly, just as you would with the excellent local wines.

The Cape region enjoys hot summers December through March and whilst these are the most popular tourist months, the spring months of October and November are just that bit cooler and not quite so busy. The mid winter months of June and July are cooler however, the Cape region can pretty much be considered an all year round golf destination and excellent value in the low season months of May through September.
